Project title: Art creation through the embracing light of our corporatarchy cult as a product of the human experience.
Synopsis: We will explore through the concept of art how there are within created objects and performances to capture and make evident ideological and social destructive force within our society, which occurs when we let the influences of corporatarchy to take hold. The project will therefore consist of a performance that will be recording then displayed within a gallery as documentation in order to represent the ideological idea of corporatrchy cult.
Project: The aim of our project is to demonstrate how the world and our society are becoming more akin towards the corpratarchy cult. We will construct the idea via a performance/public action followed by a video display within a gallery, enabling the viewer to engage with the corpratarchcy cult that exists on a more open level. The project therefore holds a twofold application, the action and the display of the action for the viewer. The performance undertaken will affect the participants within the performance, whiles the video can induce an experience for the viewer either as disgust or enjoyment. Giving us the ability to reflect on our passive movement towards corporatarchy, an example of corporatrchy is the action of over empowering the disenfranchised by exhorting dominance.
Corporatarchy cult: Coporatarchy cult explains how people are interacting with each other in contemporary society and thus expresses a system that describes a form of social control. The aim is to explain how people are becoming more willing to commit to specific mannerisms and moral indignations when applying them to modern life. Coporatarchy is a way to explain how our social relations and interactions are more akin to that of being within a corporate structure or organisation that holds an inherent strong connection to cult induction, whereby the individual is a product for sale. It describes why some members of society even though they claim moral justification, their actions are those of people who are working for a goal of attaining maximum profit or social benefit within an organisation or group of people. The aim for a person within such system is to move towards achieving a constant flow of satisfaction towards their urge or needs for pleasure.
Performance: The performance consists of a person engaging in an act of rape, the action will be documented using 4k video cameras and hidden microphones. The act of rape is to signify coporatchy cult theory in action within a real world scenario and therefore acts as a carrier of the effects present within society on all levels towards people. Why rape and not murder, murder is a finite act whiles rape allows for all the participants to walk away with one more harmed than the other. Giving us the ability to simulate aspects that are becoming more predominant within society where dominance over others, is a cause for celebration. The video will then be displayed within a gallery or art space for the viewer to experience and thereby create an opportunity for discussion (internally or externally) to occur.
Validation: The action (rape) is illegal, (dependent on where in the world and one’s affiliation to the victim). People who designate themselves of high moral character will not see the action and the documentation of the project as a work of art; such people will therefore have a very determinate view on the subject matter of art. The problem with a determinate view are the limitations and restriction placed upon people’s minds in relation to artistic work, which restricts the likelihood for created objects or ideas to hold a property of art within a society. Our understanding that something is art is not dependent on our judgement (a factor of taste) on works of art; taste is independent from our acknowledgement of physical objects holding the property of art. The property of art exists due to internal processes that occur when we are engaging within a space or objects, which hold these set defined properties of art; as such for a person to recognise art, the defined properties must hold true for a person’s internal recognition when observing or experiencing an event or object. Example, by observing simple statements such as: I like it therefore is art, I don’t like it therefore it is not art; when considering these declarations it becomes clear that when a discussion surrounding art, such discussion conveys heavily on a person’s judgement and therefore do not take into account the defined property of art. Allowing ourselves to understand that art is an internal property that formulates the experience, the requirement or argument surrounding object or events that are seen by some as being non-artistic becomes invalided; by denying one aspect of art or works of art one cannot argue for others to hold such property, as such argument will create a fallacy. It is for this reason that our proposed project will be valid as an artwork.
